CANINE & FELINE PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE

Preventive health care is essential to the continued health of your pet. Many of our sick patients could have avoided their suffering through an adequate prevention program. Timely and appropriate vaccines, a quality diet, and prophylactic dental care are some important examples of disease prevention. Along with the knowledge that you are giving your pet adequate preventative care, you will find that the costs for prevention are much smaller than the cost for treatment. To provide this type of care we recommend the following:

  • Regular physical exams.
  • Proper vaccinations, starting at 6-8 weeks of age for dogs and cats.
  • Quality nutrition as recommended by our veterinarians and technicians.
  • Parasite prevention, including intestinal parasites, heartworm, fleas, and ticks.
  • Spaying or neutering dogs and cats before 6 months of age.
  • Microchipping for all dogs and cats even those who rarely leave the home
  • Well-Pet and Senior Pet blood work, in house and through our reference laboratory
  • Dental care including routine exams, in-hospital teeth cleaning, and home dental brushing.

In addition to medical and surgical services, we also offer on-site boarding facilities for nearly all the species we treat.

PRESCRIPTION REFILLS

Our responsibility in dispensing veterinary pharmaceuticals is the same as your physician in dispensing human prescriptions. Therefore we ask that if you need a refill on medication that your veterinarian has prescribed for your pet in the past, please call 24 hours in advance. Prescription refills must be approved by one of our veterinarians and then dispensed by qualified personnel. To ensure that your pet continues to be on the correct dose or is not having underlying side effects from long-term medications, re-examinations and periodic laboratory tests may need to be performed.

In accordance with the Arizona Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program Act, if your pet requires a medication that falls into a category of drugs listed in the Federal Controlled Substances Act as a Schedule II, Schedule III or Schedule IV substance you will be required to show a state or federal issue photo ID at the time of purchase. Accepted forms of identification are: A state issued Driver’s License, a Military ID card (active, dependent or retired) or state issued ID that shows your full name, birth date and physical street address (not a post office or mailing center box number). We are unable to accept any form of ID that does not contain a photograph, street address or birth date. Physical street addresses are required for reporting as we are reporting the physical location of the medication. If a member of the household under the age of 18 is picking up the medication, we will need to be able to verbally confirm parental authorization for pick up and obtain parental information for reporting purposes at the time of pick up.
